Denzel Washington will be the master of ceremonies at this year’s concert in honour of the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, to be awarded in December, organizers announced Thursday.

The two-time Oscar winner will be joined on the stage at the December 11 concert in Oslo by acts including Florence and the Machine, Herbie Hancock, and Elvis Costello, they said in a statement.
“I am honoured to attend the Nobel Peace Prize Concert this year and participate in this historic and momentous event to help spread the message of global peace,” Washington was quoted as saying.

The prize is to be awarded on December 8 in the Norwegian capital. A record 237 candidates are in the running but no favourite has yet emerged.

Last year the prize, one of the most prestigious in the world, went to US President Barack Obama less than nine months after he took office.
