The undefeated teams TCU and Utah will meet on CBS College Sports instead of ESPN today at 3:30 pm. It’s a free preview, so you should be able to watch it. Read why the the Mountain West Conference chose CBS over ESPN after the jump…

The Mountain West Conference deliberately chose CBS’ smaller distribution over ESPN. Why? Because the conference wants to have its own control of its scheduling. Richard Sandomir, from the New York Times, wrote:
“The existence of a game of importance on CBS College Sports is a reflection of an evolving media landscape. ESPN remains the most powerful force in college football, but the Mountain West chafed at the control it once imposed. Shortly before announcing the CSTV deal, Craig Thompson, the Mountain West commissioner, said that ESPN had a “stranglehold” on scheduling its games. Seeking a flexibility not given by ESPN, he also said: “We will not be dictated solely by a television entity.”

This goes back to show how crucial media coverage is in college sports these days!! ESPN, it might time for you to start making some changes before more follow in their footsteps! (Especially if TCU is in the running for Big East football)
