New Edition Of Huckleberry Finn Will to Remove Racist Words

According to Publishers Weekly, NewSouth Books’ upcoming edition of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will remove all uses of the word “n*gger” and replace it with slave. The new book will also remove usage of the word Injun. Some people find this very controversial because the book is a part of history and is using the words to show the racial issues.

Alan Gribben is the man behind the change, and says it’s not trying to censor the book but rather update it. “Race matters in these books,” he said. “It’s a matter of how you express that in the 21st century.”

I say leave it as it is. Everything shouldn’t be watered down. That’s how it was during those times and we shouldn’t sugar coat it. We need to be reminded that shit wasn’t always sweet.

i understand the motivation behind it but you can’t white wash the past. its just like the people trying to claim the civil war wasn’t about slavery.
