I was skeptical when I first read this story because the numbers don’t seem to add up. However, one can be certified platinum by the RIAA without actually selling a million just yet. Miss Minaj is actually between 800-900k units sold…but the RIAA bases itself on units SHIPPED, not sold, so after over a million have gone out, the HB is now a PLATINUM selling artist!! Congraulations, Nicki! (And at the rate she is going, actual platinum sales are probably 3 weeks away, tops…)

This is a great thing for not only female rappers but New York rappers as well! She is the only artist in NY in many recent years (not since Lloyd Banks) to go platinum on a debut.
