U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is able to communicate with doctors by following simple commands but is not able to speak, a doctor said today. Giffords remains in critical condition.

The reason Congresswoman Giffords “can’t” speak is because of the medical equipment used to keep her alive. What might be more indicative of condition is that she is said not to be able to open her eyes.
Al in all is devastatingly sad when a person of obvious intelligence and ability, with a bright future, has that diminished or taken — especially when that is done by unfounded hatred, as hatred always is.
