The New York Yankees have signed Bartolo Colon to a minor league contract, a source told FOXSports.com on Wednesday.
Absent a commitment from veteran free agent Andy Pettitte, the Yankees are trying to build rotation depth with roughly three weeks to go before the start of spring training.
Colon, 37, hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2009, when he went 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 12 starts for the Chicago White Sox. His last season of 20 or more starts came six years ago, when he won the American League Cy Young Award for the Los Angeles Angels.
Colon pitched for the Criollos de Caguas of the Dominican Winter League this off-season, going 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in seven starts.
