Former NBA and Fab Five standout Jalen Rose, who currently works for ESPN as an analyst, said in a statement Wednesday that his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit earlier this month when his car went off an icy Detroit-area road and he was issued a citation for drunken driving.

On March 11th, I was driving to my home when I was involved in a single vehicle automobile accident,” Rose said in a statement. “I voluntarily submitted to blood alcohol screening because I was confident it was safe for me to drive.

“Although I was not feeling impaired, the results of these tests indicate that my blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

“I regret the decision to drive home that evening and am grateful that no one was hurt in the accident. I apologize to my family, my employer and each and every one of my supporters for my lapse in judgment. I am particularly sorry for disappointing those who trust me to serve as a role model for young people.

“I accept full responsibility for my actions and look forward to a resolution of the legal matter as soon as possible.”

In his statement, Rose did not specify what the blood test showed. He has an April 20 court date.

Rose was driving at 2 a.m. ET on March 11 when his Cadillac Escalade went off the side of an icy road, according to West Bloomfield (Mich.) police. A passer-by called police, who discovered the vehicle, the Detroit News reported.

Rose declined to take a Breathalyzer and was taken to a hospital for a blood alcohol test, police said Tuesday night.

The 38-year-old Rose played 13 years in the NBA, reaching the Finals with Indiana in 2000. He was also part of Michigan’s famous Fab Five, which reached the NCAA title game in 1992 and 1993.

Rose was part of a recent ESPN documentary on the Fab Five.
