SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) – Gowns and dresses believed to be from Aretha Franklin’s iconic wardrobe could pop up on eBay as early as next week. However, it’s not clear whether the sale is sanctioned by the singer.

You’ve heard about shows where collectors bid on repossessed storage units. A couple of metro Detroiters stumbled onto what appears to be a treasure trove of memorabilia from the Queen of Soul.

“We were going through it, and we were deciding whether we were going to take it to resale shops, sell it on eBay or donate it,” said Jill Pendergast, a designer. “Then we noticed that it was pretty jazzy.”

They say they have the matching receipts to prove the items belong to the one and only Aretha Franklin.

FOX 2 got an exclusive peek inside several storage lockers that we’re told were abandoned. They’re chocked full of fabulous vintage fashion thought to belong to the Queen of Soul.

When Alfred Parham obtained the secret stash, he was shocked at what he found. Tucked away behind steel doors were glamorous outfits, handbags, hats and shoes that Aretha allegedly wore for some legendary performances, such as the pink bustier and skirt adorned while gracing the stage with Rod Stewart and Dustin Hoffman and the tangerine and gold gown from the Blues Brothers movie, as well as a Blues Brothers crew denim jacket.

“There (are) some great items and great collectibles from what I see,” Pendergast said.

And soon fans could cover themselves from head to toe in outfits ostensibly worn by her Motown majesty.

“We just kept going through it, and it said ‘Franklin’ on every piece,” Pendergast told us. “It still hadn’t occurred to us, and then we came across a bag that said ‘Aretha Franklin’s miscellaneous items’ and there are receipts with her name on (them).”

“It all pulled together for us at that point,” she added.

As for how these items ended up in the storage lockers.

“I believe it was a recovery from her house fire in West Bloomfield at some point. That’s what I’m presuming at this point, and (all) I know is that it was abandoned and it’s in our hands now,” said Pendergast.

We put calls in to representatives for Aretha Franklin. We have not heard back as of yet.
