Andy Robustelli, the Stamford legend who was inducted in the National Football Hall of Fame and remembered as one of the best defensive ends to play the game, died Tuesday morning. He was 85.

Robustelli was born Dec. 6, 1925 in Stamford, where he ran a travel agency in Spring Street after returning from a storied professional football career that began in 1951 with the Los Angeles Rams and ended following the 1964 season, his ninth year with the New York Giants. He won a league championship with the Rams during his rookie season and led the Giants to a National Football League title in 1956.

Lacerenza Funeral Home confirmed his death Tuesday morning. Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
