A tsunami advisory was issued for part of Japan’s northeast coast after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck offshore Thursday morning local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported that the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture.
The U.S. Pacific Tsunami warning center said that it did not expect a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake struck near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, 325 miles from Tokyo.
Tsunami height is expected to reach about 0.5 meters, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
