NBA Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks has been offered $1.5 million per month to play for the Zhejiang Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association, according to the German newspaper Bild.

The Monday report called the offer the largest monthly sum offered to an NBA player since the lockout went into effect.

But don’t be surprised if the German star turns down the mega-offer — he’s nixed big money before, and his current focus is on helping his native country at the upcoming European Championships. Germany is seeking a berth in the 2012 Olympics.

In the past, Nowitzki has agreed to play four more years in Dallas for $20 million per season, instead of putting his name on the open market and fetching closer to $25 million per year.

He’s also turned down several lucrative endorsement deals throughout his NBA career.
