Los Angles Lakers forward Ron Artest will join the Cheshire Jets of the British Basketball League, according to a Los Angeles Times source familiar with the negotiations.

Artest added validity to the claims by posting a photo of a fan holding a Jets jersey with his number and the name “Metta World Peace,” a moniker he is still petitioning to have made his legal name.  Check it out after the jump…

The Times said Artest’s move to the Cheshire Jets has been a possibility for months. Artest told columnist Bill Plaschke in late June he could make a move to the team if there was a lockout. He has also maintained that he is interested in playing in the U.K.

“I’m just trying to have fun,” Artest said to the Times after performing at the Brea Improv Comedy Club. “If I go somewhere, whatever I do in L.A., it’ll be the same thing over there. If I go overseas, I want to be able to have fun with the fans and with the people. I don’t want to be bored. I want to be somewhere where we can play ball and have fun. That’s why I’m interested in the U.K., because I can really go there and make it a rap show. Just play ball, be crazy and entertain. I want to entertain.”
