Police are looking for a man and woman who allegedly put a small boy into the trunk of a Honda Civic and drove away from the Stamford Town Center mall Wednesday afternoon.

Stamford police say at 4:15 p.m. a witness reported seeing a Hispanic man carrying 4- to 5-year-old boy who was crying and screaming in the Stamford Town Center parking garage. The witness approached the man, who was with a woman, to inquire about the distressed boy and saw the man throw the child into his trunk and drive off, according to Stamford police Lt. Beth Erickson.

The witness told police he thought the child belonged to the man and woman.

Stamford police put out bulletins for a black 1998 Honda Civic sedan with New York plates reading ENL9676 registered to an address in Brooklyn. Stamford dispatchers notified New York and Connecticut state police, along with all other law enforcement agencies in the area.

No children have been reported missing in Stamford, Erickson said. “At this point we don’t really know what happened,” Erickson said. “One way or another it puts this child’s safety at risk.” Erickson said police put out an Amber Alert for the child in the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 203-977-4444.
