King was arrested without incident on his 38th birthday Tuesday at a Detroit church. Authorities said they had been trying to contact King for weeks about the missed payments, then saw his name advertised on a flier for a basketball camp at the church, the report said.

As of Wednesday night, King was reportedly being held at the Oakland County Jail on a $3,500 bond. He was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of failing to pay child support, which is a felony charge carrying a maximum penalty of four years in prison.

State Attorney General spokesman John Sellek said King owes a total of $17,209 for one child.

King arrived at Michigan along with fellow top freshmen Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard and Ray Jackson, helping the Wolverines reach two straight national title games in 1992 and ’93. He went on to a brief NBA career from 1995-97, and now operates J King Solar Technologies.

According to the company’s website, which lists King as president/CEO, it “designs and installs solar energy systems for commercial, residential and industrial properties.”

Former teammate Rose has been jailed since Aug. 2 at the same facility where King is being held. Rose, the point guard of the “Fab Five” teams, is serving a 20-day sentence after pleading guilty to drunken driving.
