New York Jets third-year quarterback Mark Sanchez is back gracing the pages of GQ, this time on the cover of the September 2011 issue in advance of the NFL regular season. In his interview with the magazine, however, he admitted he wasn’t so cool under pressure last season.  (More pics after the jump)

What irked Sanchez was the fact that despite going 9-2 as a starter during the first 11 games — including wins over the Patriots and Dolphins — was that Jets coach Rex Ryan considered benching him in favor of backup Mark Brunell after consecutive losses to the same two teams in December.

“I wanted to fight him. I was really mad,” Sanchez told GQ.

Sanchez, 24, also said he kept his thoughts and fists to himself, however, thanks to being appeased by Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Ryan ended up sticking with Sanchez, who led the team to its second consecutive AFC championship game.

Ryan is known for always speaking his mind, and Sanchez, while being honest about their working relationship, wouldn’t mind if his head coach showed a little more restraint with his words and actions.

“Rex is super honest,” Sanchez said. “I wish he wasn’t that honest at times.”

It requires a strong makeup and a Broadway Joe-style to handle the pressure of playing quarterback in the Big Apple. In addition to being a budding passing talent, Sanchez has proved he has the right combination of moxie and mass appeal to handle the job.
