Police arrested Michael Pena, 27. Officers realized he was a cop after they handcuffed him and found his NYPD identication. The officers found a gun nearby.
The alleged rape happened in the Inwood section at about 6:45 a.m. on Park Terrace West as the woman was heading to work. She said that a man showed her a gun and made her go into a backyard where he raped her.
A witness who lives in the building next to the yard saw something happening and called 911, prompting officers to respond to the scene.
The alleged victim told cops she knew he was armed but didn’t know he was a cop, the AP reported.
Pena joined the NYPD in 2008 and is assigned to the 33th Precinct, according to a police spokesman.
