Four New Jersey high school football players died and four others were injured when the SUV they were traveling in overturned on a highway after they left team practice Saturday morning.

The victims were teammates at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, NJ, about 10 miles outside of Atlantic City.

State Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos told the Philadelphia Inquirer the SUV flipped “multiple times” on the Garden State Parkway near Egg Harbor Township, NJ, shortly before noon and that one of the teens was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The driver and three other passengers who died in the crash were named by the Press of Atlantic City as Edgar Bozzi, 17; Dean Khoury, 15; Casey Brenner; and Nick Conner. The ages of Brenner and Conner were not known.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said in a statement the four surviving players were treated at a hospital in Atlantic City, but had not sustained life-threatening injuries.

Chuck Smith, a former assistant coach at Mainland, said he was told the players were on their way to get some food after practice when the crashed occurred.

A Facebook page set up after the accident, “R.I.P Mainland HS Boys. Gone but never forgotten,” was being followed by more than 6,600 people late Saturday.

Police have not yet determined the cause of the accident.
