A scary scene that turned out to be a prank. But even though one teacher says he was joking around with his students, school officials in Putnam County say what he did is no joke. Allegedly, driving excessive speeds with a student in the trunk of his car.

It played out in the parking lot of Kohl’s in Corridor G. In the surveillance video, you can see a 16-year-old boy running away, then a very short time later a Lincoln speeds out of sight. What you can’t see in the video, in that teenager being shoved in the trunk. But two concerned shoppers saw it and called 911.

“The kid was walking and the car pulled up beside of him and shoved him in the trunk,” one of the caller says.

This caller even tried to follow the car until she lost them on Corridor G saying, “I’ve lost them, they’ve gone at least 100 (mph) down this road, ’cause I’m going 80 right now.”

When police tracked the car down, they say they discovered a teacher was behind the wheel.

Poca High School teacher and coach Jack Daily told police he was hanging out with two students, and another teenager Friday night when they played the prank. The students also told police they were just goofing off.

One student shoved the other in the trunk and Daily took off.

“It’s very dangerous, especially when we listen to the 911 call and found that the car was traveling at 100 miles per hour and at no point did we ever see where the car had stopped and the kid got out,” Detective Bobby Eggleton with the Charleston Police Department says. “I myself interviewed one of the parents and they were quite upset about it.”

Now Putnam County school officials are investigating, and they say they take every aspect of this incident seriously. Daily is not facing any criminal charges.

Two of the students were on his tennis team. We called Daily and went to his house to get his take on the incident, but we did not get a response.
