(DailyMail)–The 23-year-old singer was forced to pull out of her scheduled gigs at Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday evening and at Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) on Monday.

A statement on Adele’s website read: ‘It is with regret that due to a severe cold and chest infection, Adele has had to postpone the first two shows of her UK tour in Plymouth on Sunday September 4th and Bournemouth on monday September 5th 2011.

‘The shows will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity and all original tickets will remain valid. Refunds will be available from the point of purchase.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to seeing you all at the rescheduled shows.’

The Grammy-nominated star’s hits include Rolling in the Deep and UK number one Someone Like You.

Her number one album 21 is up for the 2011 Mercury Music Prize, with the winner due to be announced on Wednesday.

Adele’s illness comes just days after she was interviewed on Jonathan Ross’ new ITV show, aired tonight.

In the interview, Adele hinted to Ross that she was working on the theme tune for the new James Bond film.

The chat show host asked the singer what she was working on next when Adele dropped the suggestion.

She said: ‘I’m going back in the studio in November. Fingers crossed.’

When Jonathan, 50, asked what she was preparing she said: ‘Well, this is actually a theme, what I’ve got to do.  Wow, that’s really giving something away.’

Ross queried: ‘A theme?’

He then began humming the James Bond theme tune and backtracking Adele was seen blushing and covering her mouth before saying: ‘No, It’s a concept.’
