NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will seek approval from the league’s owners to add a second London game to the regular season schedule next season, Sports Business Journal reported Tuesday.
The NFL owners are set to meet Oct. 10-11 in Houston and will vote on playing more games in the British capital in future years.
Tuesday’s report indicates Goodell will press for the next proposal to be for two games as he continues his push to broaden the sport’s appeal internationally.
The NFL is set to play a regular season game at London’s Wembley Stadium for the fifth straight season Oct. 23 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Chicago Bears.
Playing a game in London requires one of the two teams to agree to give up a home game. This year the Bucs will serve as the home team in London for the second time in three years.
The team lost 35-7 to the New England Patriots as the home team at Wembley in 2009. The Bucs’ owner, Malcolm Glazer, also owns England’s top soccer club, Manchester United.
