Sarah Palin said she didn’t hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce her decision not to run for President because she didn’t want to make a “big darn deal about it.” Hit the jump to read the rest of the story.

Palin elaborated on her decision – which was revealed in a letter to her supporters – during an interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren.

She also took the opportunity to get in a dig at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who announced in a nearly-hour-long news conference on Tuesday that he too would not seek the nomination.

“That was his seven millionth no, and I didn’t want to go through all of that,” said Palin.

“I wanted to, you know, just kind of put the marker down and say, No, I’m not running, not have a big press conference about it, not make a big darn deal about it because this isn’t about me. And it’s not about Chris Christie.”

“It is about a team effort here in America to strengthen us again and to defend our republic,” she said.

Palin won’t disappear from the 2012 race completely.

Alaska’s most famous hockey mom said that she’s already been contacted by some of the 2012 Republican candidates – though she wouldn’t reveal who – and said she wanted to help them.

“I look forward to working with them in order to maybe help them articulate their message even in more detail,” she said.
