oogle Voice users, prepare yourselves for a nice treat that’s coming soon to your phones. After all this time, Google’s VoIP (Voice Over IP) service is finally getting MMS support. Starting this week, the company will be rolling out the Multimedia Messaging System to all of their users, allowing us to send pictures/videos/audio clips to our friends via GVoice just as we would through our service provider. From the product blog:

MMS has been one of the constant feature requests since we launched Google Voice and we’ve been hard at work trying to make this happen.

Today, we’re happy to announce that we’ve made the first step in our efforts to bring this feature to our users. Google Voice users are now able to receive pictures and other multimedia messages from Sprint subscribers. The multimedia attachments will display on their mobile forwarding phone and in their email inbox when they enable text to email forwarding in their Google Voice settings. We are also planning on making them display in the Google Voice inbox.

Right now the MMS feature will only be available to Sprint customers (we’re looking at you, Sprint Pre- and FrankenPre, and Pixi owners), but Google is working to release on other carriers as soon as the paperwork can be finished.
