Lakessha Johnson’s Nov. 8 death was ruled a homicide Wednesday, ABCNews.com reports.

“A medical examiner said she died from complications related to the original shooting,” Sgt. Cindi West of the King County’s Sheriff’s Office told the web site.

The incident, which occurred in 1998, left the 34-year-old woman paralyzed, and battling a host of subsequent ailments – including the amputation of her legs three years ago, the Seattle Times reported.

The chain of events that ultimately claimed Johnson’s life was set in motion as she sat in the front passenger seat of a car leaving a bowling alley.

Ronnie Brown, seated in the rear of the car, told authorities he picked up a bag containing a gun that accidentally went off, cops told Seattle’s KIRO-FM, sending a bullet tearing through her back.

Brown was found guilty of charges related to the incident and completed a two-year sentence, ABCNews.com reports.

He was incarcarated in 2002 for a robbery conviction, according to a report posted on the Seattle Post-Intelligencer’s Web site, and remains locked up.

Prosecutors are scheduled to meet with sheriff’s investigators by the end of the week to determine if new charges can be filed against Brown.

Johnson reportedly leaves behind four children.
