Veteran Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith appeared to injure his knee while playing in a game for his Chinese team, the Denver Post reports.

Smith, who signed a one-year deal with a squad in Zhejiang in September, appeared to jam his leg while attempting to go for a pass, according to the Denver Post.

Smith had 20 points, five rebounds and four assists before limping off the court and grimacing in pain, the Denver Post said, citing photos and video of the game.

Smith’s father, Earl, told Yahoo! Sports that his son will undergo an MRI on his injured knee and was “walking around and just sore,” but is “fine.”

A seven-year veteran, J.R. Smith elected to play in the Chinese Basketball Association “based on the uncertainty of the NBA labor negotiations, a significant offer from the club and the unique opportunity to play the game he loves in another country that loves its basketball,” his agent Leon Rose said in an email to The Associated Press in September.

Smith, 26, averaged 12.3 points and 2.2 assists as the Nuggets’ sixth man last season but is signed to play in Zhejiang throughout the duration of the 2011-12 season, regardless of a resolution to the ongoing NBA lockout.
