A Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan has accused Bucs running back LeGarrette Blount of leading an assault on him. Blount’s attorney says the claims are nothing more than an attempt to extort money.

A report from the St. Petersburg Times provides details of the incident, which took place Sept. 11.

The story first surfaced Tuesday after Blount refused to pay the alleged victim $95,000, according to Blount’s attorney, Ryan Morgan.

Blount “didn’t do anything,” Morgan told the newspaper. “There was an altercation, but it didn’t involve LeGarrette. He wasn’t ring-leading anything.

“I spoke to LeGarrette and we rejected it outright because he didn’t do anything wrong,” Morgan added, per ProFootballTalk.com. “We’re not going to pay someone who is just making a money grab. If there’s a claim he needs to address—and I’m not saying that there is—I suggest he do so with the other guys involved.”

Tampa resident Gary Holmer, 34, paints a much different story. Holmer told police he was on the way home from Tampa’s season-opening game against Detroit with his girlfriend when the assault occurred.

Upon pulling into his apartment’s parking garage, Holmer said his truck hit the mirror of a silver SUV. After pulling around the corner and stopping to assess the damage, Holmer says he was assaulted by two men, according to the official police report.

Holmer alleges he was punched several times in the face, causing him to black out. The leader of the assault directed the attacks, but never physically touched Holmer. That man was Blount, according to the police report.

When reached by the Times, Blount told the newspaper “I don’t have anything to say about that.”

The newspaper reported that Blount refused to cooperate with the investigation, but no charges were pursued at Holmer’s request.

The Bucs say they were aware of what happened in September.

“LeGarrette Blount immediately informed the organization of this situation back in September,” Buccaneers Director of Communications Jonathan Grella said in a statement. “We have reviewed the incident report and spoken with the police. The Tampa Police Department confirmed that the case is closed.”
