Two Vermilion High School students were expelled last week and are facing menacing charges for threats they made on Facebook against their football coach. The 16-year-old boys posted a conversation that caught the attention of a parent who saw it and called police. The teens were apparently angry at coach Ben Ohlemacher, who is also the school’s athletic director and assistant principal. The boys were mad because they didn’t get team shirts. “He ended the year on a lie,” one student wrote. “Just like the jerseys, the pants, the deal he was going to sign with Nike, and us possibly getting cleats from Nike, OHH and don’t forget the purple turf, ha.” The other student responded, “I hate him.” Their conversation quickly escalated to threats about murdering the coach, raping his wife and breaking into his house, according to a Vermilion police report. “They would have to make up a new charge for what I’d do to him,” one student boasted, the report said. Vermilion Schools superintendent Phil Pempin said the students were initially placed on a 10-day suspension that ended Nov. 29. The next day, school administrators decide to expel them.
