Governor Cuomo believes that New York State is comprised of distinct regions that each enjoy unique economic strengths and face individual challenges.

Based on the simple truth that no one knows their regions better than the people who live and work there, the Governor created ten Regional Economic Development Councils earlier this year. Made up of local business, labor, education, and community leaders, these Regional Councils empowered each area of the state to set their own priorities for economic development.

Over the last several months, the New York City Regional Council has worked to develop a comprehensive strategy to grow the economy in New York City. The plan also identifies priority projects that have the greatest potential to create jobs.

Today, Governor Cuomo announced historic investment in New York City to support this transformational plan.

The Governor is awarding New York City $66.2 million to support 50 priority projects.

Some of the innovative projects include:

  • $29.5 million will transform the Hunts Point Produce Market into a modern food distribution facility. This project represents a major investment in the South Bronx, one of the state’s poorest communities.
  • $10 million will develop CREATE @ Harlem Green, which will revitalize and physically transform the former Taystee Bakery Complex by creating a state-of-the art mixed used, commercial building.
  • $550,000 will support the NYC SeedStart program to provide seed funding to start-up companies in New York-based innovation industries.
