With rumors of him being a possible casaulty of the amnesty clause or a trade, this isn’t the time for Metta World Peace to show up to practice out of shape.  Metta World Peace showed up Friday to the first day of training camp slightly overweight and greatly out-of-playing shape, blaming his lack of conditioning on the uncertainty of the lockout.  Read more after the jump.

“You know, I didn’t think the season would start until January,” he said. “You work out, you’re in shape in October, September, August. You’re in shape (at that time.)

“Then (NBA commissioner) David Stern said it’s going to be  a ‘nuclear winter” and I’m thinking the season isn’t gong to start in December, you know. So, (you have) a little bit more martinis in November.

“Then boom! David Stern says no ‘nuclear winter’ and you have a season.”

World Peace said he now has to do double the workouts so he can get into playing shape quickly in the shorten training camp and be ready for the start of the season on Christmas Day. Lakers coach Mike Brown said he noticed World Peace soaked through two jerseys during the four-hour practice.
