First Lady Michelle Obama is now a world record holder. She announced in an email Monday morning that her effort back in October to break the record for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period has succeeded. Hit the jump for the story.

Mrs. Obama says 300,265 people participated, which has shattered the old record of 20,000+ people.

To break the record, Mrs. Obama led around 400 students from Washington D.C. schools in jumping jacks on the south lawn of the White House. Other events for jumping jacks were held around the world on Oct. 11.

She says in the above video, “More than anything, I want to say, thanks to every single young person who showed that exercise isn’t just good for you, but that it’s fun too. We’ve got an even bigger goal to after – ending childhood obesity in a generation.”

The event was part of the first lady’s Let’s Move initiative to combat childhood obesity and promote physical fitness.
