A Florida woman got her lifesaving kidney on Craigslist, The Palm Beach Post reports.

Selina Hodge, 28, of Palm Beach Gardens, got the organ from a woman she had never met by posting an appeal on the popular website in July.

“It’s just amazing that somebody would actually lay down their life for a complete stranger,” Hodge’s mother, Gina Evans, tells WPTV in West Palm Beach.

Hodge, who needed hours of kidney dialysis daily, had been looking for a matching donor for almost a year while her health continued to deteriorate, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

She received 800 responses from her Craigslist ad, including one from Stephanie Grant, 23, who lived only a few miles away in West Palm Beach.

“I had a gut instinct when I saw the request for a donor on television. I had to get involved,” Grant tells The Palm Beach Post.

Hodge and Grant were both reported resting comfortably after Tuesday’s two-and-a-half-hour operation, The Post says.

The Sun-Sentinel, quoting the United Network for Organ Sharing, which oversees the nation’s transplant system, as saying donations from living strangers are rare, less than 2% nationally.
