Sam Hurd was released from federal custody Friday night after he posted $100,000 cash bond following two nights in jail after he was charged with conspiring to distribute large quantities of cocaine. His release came just hours after the Chicago Bears had placed the wide receiver on waivers. The judge told Hurd he must be employed or seek employment while he is free awaiting the court process to run its course, Hurd was also ordered to surrender his passport and Hurd’s attorney Brett Greenfield said his client is hopeful another NFL club will pick him up despite the criminal complaint against Hurd that suggests he wanted to purchase up to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week for distribution. “He wants to play,” Greenfield told reporters at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, according to the Chicago Tribune. “He was a great athlete for the Bears, and he’s going to be a great athlete hopefully for another organization in the near future.”
