As we previously reported, Maya Angelou was upset with her friend Common, after she’d lent her voice to his new album and was displeased to find “excessive” use of the N-word, right from the very first track. When he appeared on Angie Martinez’s show yesterday, Com said he’d cleared it up with the legendary writer earlier that morning, and that she’d be making a statement about it later that day. Sure enough, when he hit 106 & Park, Ms. Angelou called in to have a couple words. Watch and listen below.
tell that ol’ bitch to git up off me, such a cliche arguement, damn thought that nigga was dead, we youngins out here, we dont use nigga with hate, its like dem white boys saying dude
Use of the N word is dumb and disrespectful to our race. It cannot be changed. We need to stop it. I like Common and I have all of his albums, but I cringe everytime I hear N in his music and any other’s music. Yet we get upset if someone from another race uses it? Read and learn our history
