Tiger Woods announced on his website Monday that he will make his PGA Tour season debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which is scheduled for Feb. 9-12.

It will be Woods’ first appearance at the tournament since 2002.

“I’m excited to start my PGA Tour season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am,” Woods said in the story on his website. “AT&T is a great partner to my foundation, and I’m looking forward to playing in this event. I haven’t been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble. It will be fun going back.”

Tiger will play in his first tournament of the year later at Abu Dhabi in the HSBC Championship on Jan. 26.

Woods typically begins his domestic schedule at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, where he has won six PGA Tour titles and the 2008 U.S. Open. But Woods has opted this year to go overseas for appearance money at Abu Dhabi. As with AT&T, Woods noted earlier that HSBC has been a supporter of the Tiger Woods Foundation.

The Pebble Beach tour event had fallen from Woods’ schedule following a tie for 12th in 2002, his six straight appearance in the event. One of his most famous tour wins occurred at Pebble Beach in 2000, when he made up seven strokes over the final holes and shot 64 to win. Later that year, he captured his first U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, winning by 15 strokes. Woods returned to the venue in 2010 for the U.S. Open and tied for fourth.

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am, however, is contested over three courses, with Pebble used for just two of the four rounds. The pro-am format will require him to play with an amateur for the first three days.
