Ashley Chapman was arrested on Thursday after the young girl was taken to the hospital in Louisville last week.

Authorities have not released the name of the child, or her family.

Chapman, 28, was the girl’s regular babysitter, and watched her at her own home in Vine Grove while the parents were at work.

The child’s grandmother picked up the girl around 5 p.m. on Wednesday when she noticed something was terribly wrong, The News-Enterprise reported. She immediately took her to the hospital.

Chapman was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with first degree criminal abuse, WAVE 3 News reported. it is believed she violently hit and shook the girl.

Police will likely add a murder charge this week.
