I’m sure you’re well aware of the complete Lin-sanity caused by New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin.  His story is amazing taking the world by storm like well, Tim Tebow.  So of course comparisons have been made about the two.  Lin himself even says he wants to be like Tebow.  Read more after the jump.

Lin and Tebow share a connection as devout Christians.  Lin — who said he may become a minister after his playing days — told 95.7 FM in San Francisco that he’s inspired by and really respects Tebow.  Lin explained, “I actually want to be able to do some of the things that he does in terms of the amount of charity work and the non-profit work, and the way he impacts people off the field. I think that is what is most inspiring to me about him.”

Lin has overcome a great deal of obstacles and was overlooked by almost every NBA team.  He’s emerged from the shadows leading his team from losing streaks to winning streaks.  He had a lot of success at Harvard but no one thought it would translate to a great NBA point guard.  The two guys are very humble and always share their success on the merits of their team and the power of God.

I admire and respect both guys but other than religion and amazing professional stories the two really don’t have much in common and I want to put the comparison to rest.

As stated before Lin played well in college but he didn’t win anything, not even an athletic scholarship to attend school.  Tebow won the Heisman trophy as well as leading the Gators to a National Championship.  Lin entered the league as an undrafted free agent.  He went between teams and the D-League and was dropped by the Warriors before getting signed by the Knicks and finding success.  Tebow was drafted as the 15th overall pick.

These details lead you to believe that Tebow is better at his craft.  Wrong again.  Lin is a skilled point guard, his court vision and basketball IQ is amazing.  He facilitates and is able to drive to the hoop despite limited athleticism.  Now Tebow is a different story. Yes I know he produced a 7-1 record and an amazing victory in the playoffs but we have to say what’s real.  You must give some credit to  the Broncos coaching staff, they’ve adjusted the offense to mask Tebow’s inabilities and the defense improved immensely.  I give Tebow credit as a mobile QB but he struggles greatly as a passing quarterback in a passing league.  We have guys like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and of course Drew Brees who passed Dan Marino’s record.

The success stories and popularity of both these guys is no short of amazing and I wish them both well.  I hope they continue to succeed, inspire and do great things.  Speaking strictly for the sports world ON THE FIELD, the comparison’s have to be put to rest.
