I know it’s wrong but I’m guilty of the common thought that white basketball players are usually good shooters.  As a coach however I don’t think you’re allowed to admit that out loud.  After a frustrating six losses in a row, Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard was very unhappy with his “white” players.  Check what he had to say after the jump.

The Seton Hall Pirates shot a woeful 26% from the field in the 69-46 defeat against the UCONN Huskies.  “I don’t think we don’t have one guy who’s not in a slump,” Willard told reporters after the game, according to The Star-Ledger. “I’m the only coach who has white guys that can’t shoot.”

I understand his frustration but I’m pretty sure his players were offended by the comment.  Since Willard is white himself I don’t think too much of deal was made.  I’m sure if he said something along the lines of “I’m the only coach with black guys who can’t dunk” it would have been a much bigger problem.

Ironically Willard was ejected from the game for arguing with the refs prior to making the comments.  I guess it was just a bad night for him overall.
