“My mum had been nagging me for weeks to tidy my room so I started cleaning and found a pile of old tickets,” he said.

Kitching thought he had checked the dozen tickets he found buried in a drawer, but took them to the supermarket to make sure.

One turned out to be a winner, netting him about $83,900.

“I am totally speechless,” he told the Telegraph. “It was the happiest day of my life easily.”

Kitching said he already has a few ideas for how to spend the money.

“I’ll probably put some down on a house and treat my mum and dad to a holiday,” he said.

The teen also plans to help his younger brother buy a car.

“It would take me four or five years to earn this amount of money and now I’ve got it all at once,” he said.

Kitching also hopes the winnings will catch the eye of an ex-girlfriend who recently dumped him, he told the Mirror.

“She’ll be sad she finished with me now,” he said. “At least I’ll be able to enjoy the money for myself now, and treat myself, for a change.”

Kitching bought the lottery ticket at the Tesco store where he works part-time.

His mother, who also works at the store, told the Telegraph that she’d been begging her son to clean his room for weeks.

Next time, Kitching says, he’ll listen.

“I won’t need telling twice,” he said.
