The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed wide receiver DeSean Jackson to a five-year contract, the team announced Wednesday. A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter the deal is worth $51-million.

The Eagles had previously designated Jackson their franchise player, which carried a price tag of over $9.5 million.

“We are thrilled to be able to keep one of the NFL’s top playmakers in Philadelphia,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement Wednesday. “DeSean is a game breaker, he has the speed and ability to score from anywhere on the field, and he has proven himself to be a big threat for our offense. Signing our own players was a big priority for us this offseason and DeSean was certainly high on our list. We are very excited about his future as an Eagle.”

Jackson had a tumultuous 2011 season. He held out for a new contract in training camp, was deactivated for a game for disciplinary reasons and his production slipped.

The 25-year-old receiver finished the season with 58 catches, 961 yards and four touchdowns as Philadelphia stumbled to an 8-8 season.

The four-year veteran averaged 57 receptions, 1,041 yards and six TDs in his first three seasons to go along with three TDs rushing and four on punt returns.

Earlier Wednesday, the Eagles signed defensive endTrent Cole to a four-year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2017 season.

A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Cole’s extension is worth $48.525 million in salary, including $15 million guaranteed. The deal could be worth $55.25 million if escalators in the contract are triggered.

While the Eagles decided to extend Cole, they cut ties with center Jamaal Jackson on Wednesday, a team official told Schefter.
