During a recent trip to the wilds of Montana, David Weatherly found himself stranded in his SUV by a large snowstorm. He was trapped for days, but he managed to survive thanks, in no small part, to his smartphone. Not by making a call with it, mind you — he survived by playing Angry Birds.

Weatherly’s phone had no reception, so he couldn’t use it to assist in his rescue. Thanks to a car charger, however, he was able to use it for entertainment. For 15 minutes out of every hour, Weatherly would turn on the car for warmth. And while the car was heating, he’d spend the time playing Angry Birds. The entertainment helped him stay sane throughout his three-day ordeal.

After three days of eating what little beef jerky he had saved in his car, Weatherly decided to risk leaving his car to seek help. After several miles on foot, he found a home who took him in and fed him until he could be rescued.
