It looks like everyone was hungry for The Hunger Games this week!

The much-anticipated movie shattered records at the box office — earning $19 million in midnight screenings alone and an overall $155 million over the weekend according to reports. The flick broke the record of biggest non-sequel opening ever and currently holds the spot of Lionsgate’s top-grossing film of all time. It also surpassed The Twilight Saga: New Moon‘s big $142 million weekend.

What other records did the movie break?

The Hunger Games also now holds to the record for the biggest March opening of all time — a spot once reigned by Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland with $116 million.

With a big opening weekend under its belt, The-Numbers.com is reporting that the Suzanne Collins adaptation will likely top The Twilight Saga: Eclipse‘s big $300 million box office performance.
