The NBA has fined Orlando Magic big man Glen Davis $35,000 for an obscene gesture Davis made during Monday’s victory over the Toronto Raptors in Toronto, league officials announced Wednesday.

Davis appeared to flip off a fan after Davis had been hit on the top of the head by a Raptors player with 7:49 remaining in the second quarter.

The hit opened a gash on Davis’ scalp, and as Davis checked for blood, some fans inside Air Canada Centre razzed and booed Davis as Davis grimaced. Davis had some blood on his fingertips, and as he looked at a fan, Davis extended his right middle finger, put it into his mouth and licked off the blood.

The gesture was caught on TV, and pictures of the incident immediately made the rounds on Twitter.

Davis said after the game that he did not intend to make a profane gesture.

“No, I had blood on my hands,” Davis said then. “It was my middle finger, so I think they thought I was flipping somebody off, but I wasn’t. I was getting blood off my finger.”

Davis received five stitches to close the laceration.
