British authorities released a list of potential sites for the missiles on Monday. It includes several apartment buildings close to the Olympic Park in east London, including the one where journalist Brian Whelan resides.

“There was no consultation, no one knocked on the door,” Whelan, 28, told Reuters. “You just wake up one morning, there’s a leaflet telling you they are going to put missiles on the roof.

“I can’t imagine the circumstances that would require you to fire missiles over a highly populated area.”

London is hosting the Summer Olympics from July 27 to Aug. 12.

Whelan’s building, the Bow Quarter housing development, is one of several the army will be testing as bases for the missiles, which would provide a defense against an aerial attack on the games.

In the leaflet, the defense ministry explains that the building was chosen because it offers “an excellent view of the surrounding area and the entire sky above the Olympic Park,” Reuters reports.

The building is about 2 miles from the stadium, and home to about 700 people, according to The Associated Press.

“From the few people I’ve spoken to, and the security we have here, they’re not happy about it,” Whelan told The AP. “I don’t think it needs to be here at all.”

Troops will conduct security tests this week.

The government has not yet reached a final decision on whether to implement the missile plan, the Telegraph reports.

“The majority of this exercise will be played out in full view of the public and I hope that it will have a secondary effect of reassuring the British people that everything possible is being done to ensure this will be a safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Defense Secretary Philip Hammond.
