Unlike Tupac’s recent Coachella collaboration with Snoop Dogg, the legendary frontman of Queen will NOT be seen as a hologram, but rather “an optical illusion.”
We’re not exactly sure what that means, but it’s probably going to be pretty cool because guitarist Brian May said, “People will come out saying, ‘did we actually see Freddie?”’
The stunt will take place on May 14th at London’s Dominion Theatre during the 10th anniversary of the musical We Will Rock You, a show based on the band’s music.
It turns out that the band has been planning for Freddie to appear on stage again for quite some time. Brian May was actually a little bummed that Dr. Dre beat Queen to the punch with the Tupac hologram and explained:
“It’s a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we’ve been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while. The hologram technique is something we’ve looked at ourselves but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week it’s not really practical.”
You win some, you lose some. However, the fans of the artists being brought back to life through technology are the REAL winners because that’s who this is all really for, right?
