If the Orlando Magic were to have a vacant head-coaching position, Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reports Mike D’Antoni “would be very interested” in the job.  Read more after the jump.

D’Antoni resigned from the New York Knicks in March after getting them off to an 18-24 start. Incumbent coach Stan Van Gundy has one year remaining on his contract and said Tuesday he’d like to return, but the team may choose to fire him after it evaluates his performance.

D’Antoni is most famous for his run with the Phoenix Suns, whom he coached from 2004/05 to 2007/08, beginning in 2003/04 on an interim basis. That run included two Western Conference Finals appearances and two Most Valuable Player awards for point guard Steve Nash as his team’s offenses never finished worse than second in offensive efficiency.

There’s no indication yet that Orlando would reciprocate D’Antoni’s interest in it.
