Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News reports that Van Gundy intends to take a year off from basketball, but does plan to return to coaching for the 2013-2014 season. Van Gundy owns a career .647 winning percentage in eight years as a head coach, and led the Magic to a 37-29 record in the lockout-shortened 2011-2012 NBA Season. The Magic made the playoffs in each of Van Gundy’s five seasons in charge, and ended this season with a 4-1 series loss to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs.
