Samsung are currently building social network features into their phones and could be in competition with FaceBook very soon. While competitors to Samsung like Apple’s iOS 6 and iPhone 5 are focusing on integrating FaceBook into their products, Samsung have chosen to go in a different direction.

Unnamed officials have told The Korea Times (KT) that they will introduce social network imbedded apps within their products next year. It seems they firmly believe that they will eventually be able to build a network that would be able to compete with FaceBook.

At the moment the code name is ‘Samsung FaceBook’ and is thought to be leveraging their existing tool ChatOn. This is available on iOS, Blackberry and Android handsets along with Family Story which is an app for cloud based sharing. They hope to turn these into a cross platform fully fledged social media service. They also believe that cameras can also be used along with Blu-ray players, TVs and other devices made by Samsung along with other companies.

Officials also say that they will be integrating another service, which as yet has not been named, in with a cloud computing platform from Amazon. Towards the end of 2012 Samsung will have their Family Story finely tuned and polished and it will then be given to users of Samsung at no cost. They might then roll it out to users of other devices. Samsung is said to be confident in the potential of its own social network and are looking to safeguard against bottlenecks following the introduction of it.

Samsung have taken an unusual and bold step as Apple have only released the fact that they are integrating FaceBook into iOS 6 at the WWDC 2012. However Samsung do remain among the top companies in mobile phone production by market share so their gamble could pay dividends while other competitors, including Google +, have yet to make headway in their competition against FaceBook.
