A diamond in the rough, indeed.

Deb Thompson went to her local Goodwill in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, in search of some bargain capri pants. She found a pair for $3.99, drawn to flashy fake gems that adorned the pockets.

But Thompson was shocked to find real bling inside one of those pockets. “I put my hand in the right pocket and I felt something,” Thompson told KSTP-TV. “I opened my hand and we both went, ‘Wow!'”

Thompson’s bargain capri pants had been hiding a diamond ring — a ring one jeweler in St. Paul appraised at somewhere between $5,000 and $6,500, according to the Star Tribune.

Instead of cashing in on her surprise find, Thompson says she wants to find the owner and return the ring.”This is truly a good Samaritan story,” said Lisa Ritter, the marketing director of Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota, to the NY Daily News. “We have 2 million visitors go through our donation drive-throughs every year.”

The Minnesota Goodwill posted an inquiry on their Facebook wall asking if anyone could prove the ring was theirs. As of Friday morning, the post had generated more than 260 comments, including a mix of people applauding Thompson for doing the right thing, sharing their own lost-ring stories, and claiming the ring is theirs.
