Are women too busy for the bedroom?

British author Jilly Cooper says women don’t want to have sex anymore because they have too much on their plates.

“Doctors’ waiting rooms are absolutely brimming these days with women suffering from low libidos,” Cooper told The Telegraph.

“I have talked to a lot of young women about this, and they just don’t seem to do it any more,” Cooper adds. “Honestly, I suppose it’s because we all have so many other demands on our time now.”

The 75-year-old made a name for herself in ’80s with a series of romantic fiction books that featured raunchy tales of adultery, betrayal and infidelty.

Several studies indicate the romance novelist may be on to something.

A Grazia magazine study from April found that 6 out of 10 British working women believe “job stress” dramatically affects their sex lives.

Many young women also feel guilty or distressed over their low libido, according to a 2010 study by the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health.

But that doesn’t mean that sex is completely off the table.

A recent survey by MissTravel found that more than 40 percent of women in their 20s had engaged in a one-night stand during a vacation, with 10 percent having more than four sexual partners in one week.

And what about the overwhelming popularity of E.L. James’s “Fifty Shades” erotic trilogy, which still tops the New York Times bestseller list?

Cooper acknowledges that the series is to thank for making racy novels acceptable again.

“Porn was terribly out of fashion before that book came out,” Cooper says. “While I have heard that it is quite poorly written, I am delighted that it’s giving a new lease of life to the [romance] genre.”

Cooper said the success of “Fifty Shades” has inspired her to ramp up the sexiness of her next novel.

“I am really working hard to get more sex into it than usual,” she told the Telegraph. “I’ve got jockeys jumping on top of jockeys and horses jumping on top of horses.”
