Manuel Fernandes allegedly attempted to rob a Rent-A-Center in Brockton, Mass., and instead he had nine hours of his life stolen from him.

Police say that Fernandes, 54, tried to prop up the overhead garage door using a metal bedpost so he could shimmy underneath and rob the place.

This was around midnight Tuesday, but, unfortunately for him, Fernandes got his head stuck under the door and was forced to lay with his right cheek on the dirty floor for about nine hours until assistant manager John Rodriguez found him, according to Boston.com.

“I happened to walk in and he was there,” Rodriguez told EnterpriseNews.com.. “I saw that little head sticking out.”

“Hang tight! The police are on their way,” is how Rodriguez said he greeted Fernandes. The assistant manager then started taking videos for evidence and his own amusement.

Brockton police spokesman Lt. Paul Bonanca said that at first, Fernandes tried to claim he was there to fix the garage door.

“He had tried to say he was there for a legitimate purpose,” Bonanca told a press conference. “But, obviously, with prying open the garage door, and the position he was found, it’s obvious his purpose was criminal.”

Fernandes, who is homeless, suffered a large bruise on the back of his head from the pressure of the door and was sent to the hospital to be checked, according to officials.

“It could have been a fatal situation if more momentum had occurred so I don’t recommend that for anyone to try,” Bonanca told WBZ-TV.

It hasn’t been determined just how bad the bruise to Fernandes’ ego is.

Police plan to charge Hernandes with breaking and entering and malicious damage to property, WHDH-TV reported.
