A five-year-old boy had his hand ripped off in a freak accident involving a skipping rope and a car.
The child, from Rockland, Maine, was sitting in the back seat of a car with one end of the rope wrapped around his wrist and the other dangled out the window, while his grandmother was driving on Tuesday.
As another vehicle drove by, the rope got caught and, as it drove away, the jumping rope severed the young boy’s hand.

A passer by stopped to help the stricken youngster, identified by his first name Noah, who was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
Doctors in Boston attempted to re-attach the severed hand but it is not known if the operation was a success.
